Board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon Dr. J. Preston Coleman began his professional journey in San Antonio, graduating from Central Catholic High School before pursuing an accelerated dental education. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1968 from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, completing both college and dental school in just five years. After dental school, Dr. Coleman joined the U.S. Army and served as an oral surgeon at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, where he was mentored by Dr. Harold Hargis.
Following his honorable discharge, Dr. Coleman returned to Tennessee to complete his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery under the renowned Dr. Joe Hall Morris. He became board certified in 1975 and went on to establish a respected private practice in North San Antonio. Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Coleman served as an associate clinical professor at UT Health San Antonio for more than two decades and contributed to the VA Hospital in Kerrville as a surgical consultant.
Dr. Coleman’s leadership in organized dentistry includes serving as president of the Texas Dental Association from 2010 to 2012 and earning the TDA Gold Medal Award in 2018 for distinguished service. He is a fellow of the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and a life member of the ADA, TDA, and San Antonio District Dental Society. In his personal life, Dr. Coleman and his wife Sue Ann have built a legacy of love and service, raising four children and two grandchildren, and cherishing their time spent with their growing family.
